In his early days at Columbia Records as a studio musician/staff songwriter, he toured the California, Nevada, northwest and mountain states circuits for years as an acoustic solo and with his Runamuc bands. His musical journey has also allowed him the opportunity to cross paths by either warming up or accompanying such talents as Merle Kilgore, Johnny Lee, Sheb Wooley, Asleep at the Wheel, Commander Cody, Tex Williams, Ferlin Husky, The Byrds, Buffalo Springfield, Cream, Janis Joplin and Big Brother, Trini Lopez, The Dillards, Stephani Winslow, Byron Berline & The L. A. Fiddle Band, Mary Mccaslin and Jim Ringer and Bill Kirchen and the Moonlighters.
After establishing his own radio and TV show, the name Clod Headgate emerged for his shows "Clodhoppers" and allowed him to create an alter ego. (Witness protection program - must hear Clod's weekly parody intro song on TV show "say has anybody seen my glasses and nose").
Clod Headgate has been an outstanding one man band since 1995. Recording his own original background music from the drums up, including his own backup vocals, at Runamuc Ranch Studios in Nevada County, CA. (henceforth, known as the Runamuc Studio Band.) live on lead guitar (one of the few finger pickers left) and lead vocals, his musical shows consist of classic rock, hot country, variety, original songs and comedy parodies, in a finely mixed blend of recorded and live music. You would swear there was at least a five piece band in the room. Clod tours the Nevada circuit and can be heard locally at the National Hotel in Nevada City, CA.
Clod ventured into the broadcasting world on TV station RSVL/channel 8 in Roseville, CA, (Sacramento area) having done some 30 live one hour music specials on "Friday Night Live" over the years.
In 1999 he joined the cast of "The End of the Trail Saloon" KVMR 89.5 fm Nevada City, CA (worldwide on internet), where he began writing his parodies. The show ran for 5 years and placed 2 of those 5 years in the top 3 for the Golden Reel Award, a national award for original radio. Check out Clod's cd Parodies Volume 1, Runamuc Records.
Clod's radio show "Clodhoppers" first aired in December 2002 as a spin off from 'the saloon" and is still going strong on KFOK 95.1 fm, Georgetown, CA, every Monday 5-6 pm. (can also catch it on internet kfok.org)
"Clodhoppers" is an imaginary music shop where Clod "putzes" around on the accordion, acoustic and electric guitars and has special guests drop in to join in the frivolity with him and his Runamuc Studio Band.
Clod's award winning TV show "Clodhoppers" evolved from his radio show in august 2005 and is aired on Comcast Cable TV, NCTV/channel 11 from Nevada City, CA. Wednesdays 8pm and sundays 11pm. Having completed 110 fun filled weekly episodes as of January 2008, NCTV is enjoying a successful third season of this unique and entertaining show.
